SUBREGION NOA

BACKGROUND FOR THE CROP

The Campaign 2010/11, in Tucumán province, reach approximately 182,500 hectares (data: Remote Sensors Section - EEAOC) showing low variation as regards the previous campaign, while in the whole of the North Western region of the country, the 500,000 hectares were surpassed.

The sowing period was extended from the end of April to mid May, which was characterized by a good water reload in the soil that together with the normal temperatures of the time, favored the implantation of the crop in almost all lots. During the plant development, the water and thermal conditions allowed the formation of a larger number of tillers in most of the varieties sowed in the zone.

This campaign was also characterized by the absence of frosts in the critical period of most of the crops sowed in the recommended date, as well as by the occurrence of rains during September, which favored the grain filling, resulting in higher performances than in prior campaigns.

The sanitary status of the crops was very good since neither important attacks of plagues were detected nor the presence of leaf diseases.

The average performance of the Argentine North Western region was quite less than 1400 kg/ha, which is higher than that of the previous campaign, which did not reached the 1000 kg/ha.
