SUBREGION III

BACKGROUND FOR THE CROP

The 2010 campaign was characterized by favorable weather conditions for the wheat crops. There were higher rains than the average during the first months of the year, which allowed having the proper amount of water in the soil for the growing and development of the crops.

The technologic level used was good. There were more diseases than in the previous campaign. The most important disease was the leaf rust, while the leaf spots were observed generally during the first stages of the cultivation.

The performance was very good, even in later sown crops. The cold temperatures occurred during October, added to the good radiation conditions facilitated the formation and a normal grain filling. As a consequence, the commercial quality was very good.

The climate conditions during the harvest were very good, so the harvest was done with no problems.

The performance of the region was excellent, with an average of 3900 kg/ha, which is a record for the province.

Due to the high performance obtained, the protein and gluten content was low, which affected the industrial quality.
